説明

Raspatories were newly developed for sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible to achieve protective dissection of the periosteum around the ascending ramus, especially at its posterior portion, where dissection was very difficult. Four raspatories make one set, and their distinguishing marks are as follows:
1. Each raspatory has an overall length of 235 mm and is bent 10 degrees to the rear at the narron shaft, making the edge always visible during dissection.
2. Each head of the four raspatories has a gradually different curvature. Their use by turns enables easy and safe dissection of the periosteum from the inner surface over the posterior margin of the ramus.
3. Each raspatory was specifically designed to have a very thick head, which applies adequate pressure to and tension of the periosteal membrane, hence dissection can be performed without damaging the membrane.
