Abstract

The mechanism on the unseasonal hatching of the hibernating silkworm eggs in natural condition has been investigated by measuring the amount of 3-hydroxykynurenine in eggs just after egg laying (the amount transmitted from pupal blood into egg), and in eggs at 30th day after laying, using the pigmented eggs of four strains of Daizo origin.
In all strains investigated, a high negative correlation was observed between the unseasonal hatching of hibernating egg and the amount of 3-hydroxykynurenine transmitted from pupal blood into egg or the amount consumed for the pigmentation of egg.
From the experimental results mentioned above, it was shown that the unseasonal hatching of egg showed tendency to outbreak frequently in the pigmented eggs, when the amount of 3-hydroxykynurenine transmitted into egg or consumed for the pigmentation of egg was small.
