A study was conducted to elucidate the effect of periodic feeding on oviposition time and egg quality. Experiment was performed using 102 pullets of two strains of White Leghorn at 54 weeks of age.<br>Under the condition of 12 hours of periodic feeding and continuous light, most ovipositions occurrd in the feeding period, but 40.5% or 31.6% of C1 ovipositions occurred before the beginning of next feeding period. Under the condition of 12 hours of periodic feeding and 19L:5D, ovipositions occurred in the light period irrespective of the feeding schedule. Rate of lay was high under the 19L:5D than under the continuous light. Shell thickness and shell fracture force in the periodic feeding group were inferior to those in the continuous feeding group.<br>It was concluded that under continuous light condition periodic feeding is a dominant signal on entrainment of ovipositions, but light-dark cycle signal is a more powerful stimulus than periodic feeding. Periodic feeding affects badly to the egg quality.
