The reproductive ability in the 2 breeds of ducks (Mallard and Cherry valley) and their crossbred (F1) were compared in order to select more profitable breeds for integrated rice and duck farming. Three paddocks were used for this study and 16 Mallard(_??_:13, _??_:3), 15 Cherry valley(_??_:12, _??_:3) and 20 F1(_??_:16, _??_:4) were allocated to each paddock(30m2). The animals were kept untill 411 days of age in the paddock with full formula for layer. The feed intake was measured once a week. The results obtained were as follows:
1. Egg production rate of Mallard during 171∼410 days of age tended to be lower than those of Cherry valley and F1. Egg weight tended to be heavier in order of Mallard, F1 and Cherry valley.
2. Daily feed intake during 171∼410 days of age had a tendency to be more in order of Mallard, F1 and Cherry valley. Feed conversion ratio was not different between Mallard and Cherry valley, however the difference between Cherry valley and F1 was significant.
3. Haugh unit was not different among the 3 breeds. Egg shape index, yolk index and shell thickness of Cherry valley were better than those of F1 and Mallard. The albumen pH of Mallard was the highest among the 2 breeds and their crossbred and those of Cherry valey and F1 were similar.
4. It was recognized that fertility and hatchability of Mallard were the lowest among the 2 breeds and their crossbred and there was no difference between Cherry valley and F1.
5. The results of the present study suggested that Cherry valley was the most profitable in the reproductive ability among the 2 breeds and their crossbred.
