There are drift-type annual snow patches in niches, Õsawa, at 1, 100-1, 470 m above sea level on the south eastern slope of Mt. Iwaki (1, 625 m, 40°39'N, 140°18'E) which is the lee side during the winter monsoon. The snow patches at Õsawa were observed in 1974, 1975 and 1976.<BR>1) The mass of the Õsawa snow patch on 20 August 1974 was 230kg and melted away on 21 August. 2) The mass of the snow patch at the height of 1, 160-1, 403m on 16 July 1975 was 6, 100 tons, and decreased to 480 tons on 1 August and melted away on the 6th. 3) The mass of the snow patch at the height of 1290-1360m on 29 July 1976 was 90 tons, that was 20% of the mass on August 1975. The snow patch melted away on 2 August. 4) In late July, the melting rate was 20 cm/day in snow depth, and 120kg/m2·day in water weight. No perennial snow is found, because all the snow patches are in ablation area in 1974-1976.
