Microhardness tests were carried out on carbides in samples of alloyed cast irons and of some tool steels, using a 136-degree Vickers pyramid indenter with a 50 gram load. The indentations were between 4 and 9 microns in diagonal length, as measured under a 400×microscope equipped with a ocular micrometer.
