The Holocene development of lucidophyllous forest along the Pacific coast of the Japanese Archipelago was discussed with reference to palynological studies of the Kuroshio Current. The lucidophyllous forest-in particular, Castanopsis type-developed from the early Holocene along the south Pacific coast of the Boso Peninsula. The forest expanded northward as a whole along the Archipelago with rapid global warming, with the earliest and most marked development at the southern ends of the Izu Peninsula and the Boso Peninsula. The Kuroshio Current greatly influenced the weather in such regions, so that the warm and rainy oceanic climate promoted the development of the lucidophyllous forest. And the lucidophyllous forest developed with three different expansion chances along the Pacific coast during the early Holocene.
