Abstract

In order to develop an analytical method that allows effective discrimination of pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs), polyβ-pinene, one of the representative tackifiers that constitute PSAs, was identified using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. In this study, the optimum analytical method was obtained using trans,trans-1,4-diphenyl-1,3-butadiene as the matrix without silver trifluoroacetate, the cationization agent. Acetone extracts of PSAs were analyzed by this method and polyβ-pinene was identified.
