Description

This paper discusses the importance of soil scientific knowledge to link the transition of the earth with the activities of living things and human beings in Japan geopark activities. To recognize the soil as a constituent element of the geopark, the following three viewpoints are important ; (1) natural soil (soil body) is generated as a result of the interaction of the local environment, (2) providing ecosystem services forms the basis of the ecosystem, (3) the soil itself has scientific value as a natural thing. To promote research on relationships between geodiversity and biodiversity in the geopark, pedologists should enhance the accuracy of data in collaboration with researchers in other geoscience fields.
