Description

The influences of chemical composition (S, Mn, Cr) on graphite form of spheroidal iron and normal gray iron are studied. The following results are obtained.
1) The sulphur content of spheroidal iron must not exceed 0.025 per cent. If the sulphur content before the magnesium treatment is over 0.1 per cent, as much magnesium as to be able to eliminate sulphur and to remain in cast iron must be added to molten cast iron.
2) Chromium less than 1 per cent does not impede the spheroidal graphitization but chromium more than 1 per cent destroys the form of spheroidal graphite.
3) Manganese less than 12 per cent in spheroidal iron, does not impede the spheroidal graphitization but more than 10 per cent contained in it, makes size of spheroidal graphite very fine.
4) The influence of sulphur, manganese and chromium (carbide stabilizer) on hyper eutectic gray cast iron.
a) If sulphur is contained over 1 per cent, the cementite and the lump graphite (nearly spheroidal) is crystarized.
b) If manganese and chromium are added to gray iron, the cementite and the very small lump graphite are crystalized.
