Abstract

A pattern material of water soluble urea-resin for investment castings which can be shaped by pouring into metal molds was examined. It is mainly composed of urea and water soluble nylon which is used instead of the polybinyl alcohol in the conventional urea-resin. The urea-resin with water soluble nylon is superior to that with polybinyl alcohol with respect to fluidity, appearance of pattern surface, shrinkage rate when cast into metal molds. The shrinkage rate, surface defect percentage, water dissolving rate and transverse strength are 0.55%, 0.06%, 2.1mm/h and 88.2kgf/cm2 respectively.
