Abstract

In order to prevent scattered structure in ADC 12 alloy squeeze casting, insulating powder was electrostatically applied to the shot sleeve and the die cavity. As a result, it was found that while insulating powder has an excellent heat insulating performance during the filling process, it has heat transfer property as good as graphite or silicon oil series die lubricants, allowing the shots to rapidly solidify under a high pressure die casting condition. Also, scatterd structure and trapped air in the castings were significantly reduced and the mechanical properties of the casting was thus remarkably improved.
