Abstract

The lost foam casting process was investigated experimentally using a sheet lamination model. The change in the mass with time of the sheet lamination model in a crucible heated in an electric furnace was measured. The temperature at which the sheet lamination model disappeared was obtained. The sheet lamination model was then placed in a plaster mold, heated, and made to disappear. Aluminum alloy was poured into this plaster mold, and dimensional changes in the casting from the sheet lamination model were measured. It was found that dimensional changes of the sheet fiber direction are not significant, but that of the laminating direction are large. This dimensional changes decreased when a sheet lamination model coated with cyanoacrylate adhesive was used.
