Abstract
In order to determine the correlations between micro-structures and other properties of metals, it will be necessary to know the various phases of bulks and amount of fine precipitates in these phases. In the present work, the structural analysis of micrographs has been tried by the application of the Photo-Densitometer to rate the areas which these phases and precipitates take up on certain section.
The paper involves design of the Photo-Densitometer and its application to cast iron. The Photo-Densitometer can be used succesfully in the analysis of structures of cast iron in the following manner;
(1) It can be done to rate relative areas of graphite and ferrite in cast iron by means of the Photo-Densitometer.
(2) It is found from a new point of view that the amounts of graphite and ferrite are closely correlated with the chemical compositions and the mechanical properties.
