Abstract
A new fluidized bed boriding fumace system was applied to the surface modifying of S. G. Iron and S45C Steel. The tests were made on the hardnessmeasurements, the microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, the electron microprobe X-ray analyzer, and the sliding wear characteristics under dry condition of boronized specimens.<br> As a result, the boronized layers on both the S. G. Iron and S45C Steel consisted of two inter-metallic compounds (FeB, Fe2B), and the boronized S. G. Iron and S45C Steel showd far better wear resistance than the softnitrided S. G. Iron and S45C Steel.<br> It was found that the fluidized bed boriding method could be successfully applied to the surface modifying of S. G. Iron and S45C Steel.
