Abstract

  The relation between the structure and mechanical properties of metals has been investigated qualitatively on the micrographic basis. An attention, therefore, should be devoted necessarily to quantitative relation in this respect. In this work, use of a photo-densitometer unit and statistical treatments were proposed to analyse the metallic structure, and were tried to utilize for the quantitative analysis on the distribution of flake graphite in cast iron. <br>  In the preactical application, it was found that the distribution of graphite in cast iron has a close relation to the tensile strength.
