As a method of estimating chemical and mechanical properties of cast iron at the cupola side, the small sensitive wedge-shaped castings being used for test pieces. The relations between the chilled thickness of wedge-shaped test pieces, these chemical compositions, and the tensile strength of these materials were examined. The following results were obtained. <br> (1) By measuring the chilled thickness of test pieces, we could find these chemical compositions. <br> (2) By measuring the chilled thickness of test pieces, we could find the tensile strength of these materials.
