Abstract

Laser fusion research has been developed remarkably due to the completion of high power laser drivers as well as the novel design of the fuel target. “Cannon ball target” scheme gives a promising prospect for the inertial fusion program. The Gekko XII glass laser at ILE Osaka University is the strongest fusion laser in the world, which produces the world record of neutron yield 4×1010 per shot by 55 TW in 100 psec.<BR>The concept design of laser fusion reactor seems to be very effective due to the liquid metal blanket in comparison with the magnetic fusion reactor.
