説明

The preparation of pulp from hardwood (beech) sulfite knotter-rejects by kraft digestion has been studied. The rejects used in this study were the materials separated, respectively, from paper-making pulp (PSP) and dissolvingpulp (DSP) at a sulfite pulp mill. Their analytical characteristics were as follows : lignin (I) 12.0 and 19.3% (given in order of the rejects named), pentosans (II) 6.5 and 2.1% holocellulose (III) 81.0 and 65.7%, and alpha-cellulose (IV) 72.6 and 63.8%. The IV : III ratios in the two kinds of rejects were greater than the ratios both in the original woodchips and in softwood sulfite knotter-rejects. The digestion of the rejects from the PSP was carried out under the following conditions : total alkali 17-26%, sulfidity 20-50%, max. cooking temperature ca. 160°C, and cooking time at max. temperature 2hrs. Under such conditions, pulps were produced in yields from 49.0 to 55.9% (screened); and their properties were as follows : I 1.8-2.5%, II 1.8-2.2%, III 91.4-94.4%, IV : ratio 0.957-0.977, and relative viscosity 4.6-6.1. The rejects from the DSP were cooked under the following conditions : total alkali 17 or 20%, sulfidity ca. 30%, max. cooking temperature 150-170°C, and cooking time at max. temperature 0.5-2.0hrs. Under such conditions, pulps were produced in yields from 41.5 to 43.6% (screened); and their properties were as follows : I 1.8-2.2%, II 1.4-1.6%, IV 90.0-93.0%, IV : III ratio 0.951-0.974, and relative viscosity 3.7-5.2.
