Description

For polymer melts, relationships of flow indices to shear rate γ, shear stress τ, viscosity η, temperature shift factors and blend ratios were studied. The flow indices (nτγ, nηγ, nητ: wherein subscripts indicate the flow characteristics.) show large dependencies on γ or τ. The flow indices decrease with increase of γ. The values of nτγ obtained by the diagrammatical differentiation of the flow characteristic curves and of the temperature shift factor curves agree substantially with each other. In the blended samples of polypropylene (PP) ·high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin, polycarbonate (PC) ·poly (methyle methacrylate) (PMMA) resin and polystyrene. low-density polyethylene resin, PC·PMMA shows the largest γ dependencies of nτγ and nηγ. The nτγ, nηγ-lnγ curves for PP·HDPE samples are located between the curves of their components in order of the blend ratio. The curves for other blended samples deviate from such relationship. PP·HDPE samples exhibit the largest influence of the blend ratio.
