説明

Polyion complex films were prepared by casting clear solutions of chitosan and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with various degrees of substitution in 20% aqueous formic acid. The water-sorption behavior of these polyion complex films was investigated. The degree of film swelling in water was significantly affected by the balance between the amounts of the amino group and the carboxyl group; it was minimal when both amounts were equal. The larger the difference in the amounts of the two groups, the larger the degree of film swelling. The film could swell up to several hundred times its original size. The addition of electrolytes or non-electrolytes in water had little influence on the absorption behavior of minimally swelling polyion complex films. On the other hand, in the case of greatly swelling polyion complex films, the degree of swelling decreased remarkably with the addition of electrolytes. However, di-valent cations did not affect the absorption of chitosan-rich complex films as much as that of the CMC-rich complex films. Repeated soaking of the film in water removed the water-soluble components from the film, but the composition of the polyion complex experienced little change.
