A thermal conductivity device consisting of concentric cylinders with guard cylinders and built-in heaters at the ends of the measuring cylinder (middle) was constructed. This was used to determine experimentally the performance of a concentric cylinder conductivity device and the dependence of temperature on the thermal conductivity between solid and melt phases of polymers. The temperature distribution of the axial inner cylinder wall and its fluctuation with time were slight, about ±0.05-0.2°C, ±0.2-0.7°C, respectively. Therefore, the device has a characterristic of performance that axial heat transfer can be neglected, so there is heat transfer only in the radial direction. The measurements are precise to within ±4-10%. The accuracy of measurements in a concentric cylinder device is about 20% higher than that in a parallel plate device under melts state polymer. The thermal conductivity for the melt state of polycarbonate (PC), polyacetal (POM) excepting polyethylene (PE) is little affected by temperature.
