Description

Aging in quenched and subsequently compressed polycarbonate (PC) has been studied by mechanical compression, DSCand thermally stimulated deformation recovery. Evolution of yield stress with aging time was seen for quenched and then strained PC specimens, being much faster than that for what is called the physical aging of the same sample. Experimental data obtained by DSC and the thermally stimulated deformation recovery show that the strain energy given to the quenched PC specimen before agingis locked into physically aged structure more tightly with increasing agingtime. Thus, the evolution of yieldstress of thequenched and strained PCisprobably due to the physically aged structure locking the strain energy tightly in itself.
