Description

Thermal stabilization of poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) containing 6-R-1, 3, 5-triazine-2, 4-dithiols (triazine dithiols) and Zn-Ba-stearate (PVC sheets) was studied at 170°C. Triazine dithiols restrained the dehydrochlorination of PVC sheets, and improved the color stability of PVC sheets. A model reaction, the UV spectroscopy and the viscosity measurement of the products showed that triazine dithiols mainly react with unstable allyl-type chlorine in PVC, resulting in a stable cross-linking structure. Improvement of thermal stability of PVC by triazine dithiols was attributed to the trapping of allyl-type chlorine in PVC, which is the initiator of zipper-like reaction.
