To increase a dissolution rate of very slightly soluble drugs, the behaviors of dissolution process were extensively investigated in the solid mixing system of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and phenacetin prepared by procedures of mixing roll (I), coprecipitation (II) and physical mixing (III). The dissolution rate of the drug in the system of powder state below 100 mesh prepared by the procedure I increased as the PVP content increased up to the weight ratio 5 of PVP to the drug. The procedure I was more effective in improving dissolution behavior than the procedure II and III. Microcrystalline phenacetin, slightly present in the system pretreated by the procedure I at the weight ratio 2, was converted to an amorphous state by annealing at 90°C for 1 h. The annealed system exhibited prominent dissolution process of drug.
