説明

Electron spin resonance (ESR) and electrical conductivity of SO3-doped Poly (p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS) were investigated. The radicals originating from the sulfur atom in PPS could be obtained easily by the treatment of PPS with SO3 gas. Their number increased up to about 5.4×1023 spins/mol which implies that the radical exists in the monomeric unit of the polymer chain. Temperature dependence of the radical in SO3-doped PPS obeys a Curie law, indicating that this charge transfer complex is a paramagnetic polymer. A strong correlation can be seen between the radical and the electrical conductivity. Although SO3 doped PPS has a great number of carriers, its electrical conductivity is very low, due to the low carrier mobility of 10-7cm2/V. s. Consequently, the conduction mechanism in SO3-doped PPS system can be explained as controlled by hopping between localized states.
