抄録

Electron spin resonance is studied in order to explain the dielectric properties of plasma polymerized styrene (PPS) film and the effect of the hydrogen or argon plasma treatments for improving their properties. Irreversible pseudo-peaks on the temperature characteristics of both the dielectric loss tangent (tanδ) and the line width of ESR signal are found. This is interpreted in terms of molecular motion of residual low molecular moieties and their further polymerization through free radicals. Hydrogen or argon plasma treatments improve the dielectric properties. This is due to further polymerization of residual low molecular moieties by the plasma treatment. The plasma treated film is scarcely oxidized by the heat-treatment at 250°C in air, being due to the highly crosslinked structure near the surface which obstructs supplying oxygen molecules into bulk.
