Abstract

This paper deals with our recent works on the preparation of inclusion complexes composed of amylose and various guest polymers. We found that the amylose-polymer inclusion complexes could be prepared when the phosphorylase-catalyzed enzymatic polymerization forming amylose was performed in the presence of guest polymers such as polyethers, polyesters, a poly(ester-ether), and polycarbonates with appropriate hydrophobicities. To obtain the inclusion complex from a strongly hydrophobic guest polymer, we performed the aforementioned amylose-forming polymerization and a polyester-forming polymerization catalyzed by lipase, simultaneously. In addition, we found that amylose selectively includes one side of the guest polymer from a mixture of two similar polyethers or polyesters. Finally, we report the preparation of hydrogels through the formation of inclusion complexes of amylose in vine-twining polymerization.<br>
