Description
We investigate the rheological properties of microgel/linear polymer mixed systems. Dynamic viscoelastic measurements reveal the presence of entanglement coupling between linear polymers and microgels. The critical sinusoidal strain, where the non-linear viscoelastic behavior becomes pronounced, increases with an increase in the molar mass of polymers, suggesting that the linear region is extended by the introduced polymers. Steady shear flow measurements unveil that the shear thinning behavior is suppressed with an increase in polymer length, and that the flow curve asymptotically approaches the Cox-Merz rule. These results indicate that the linear polymer in the mixed system promotes the linear viscoelastic response, which makes the mixed system behave like the ordinary entangled polymeric liquid. These findings will help us to understand the relationship between the dynamic properties and the structure of the mixed system.
