Abstract

The monthly residential energy and water consumption in five coastal cities of the Seto Inland Sea, such as Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Matsuyama, Kitakyushu, and, Oita in the 2000s were estimated by using statistical data on family -income and expenditure-and-retail-price surveys. Electricity, gas, and kerosene consumption are sensitive to the monthly average temperature in each city while gasoline and water consumption are not sensitive. The gasoline and water consumption are significantly different between the cities. The difference of gasoline consumption is thought to depend on the car ownership ratio and population density. Energy consumption for heating, cooling, and hot-water-and-kitchen are also different between the cities. These differences are significantly affected by the monthly average temperature, duration of sunshine, and ownership ratio of water heater.
