Abstract

In this study, we considered a heat recovery mechanical ventilation unit that alternately intakes and exhausts through heat storage material inserted in the pipe. We propose a method for evaluating the heat exchange efficiency under the condition that the supply and return air flow rates are almost equal. For the proposed method, a pair of the same ventilation units is installed between two airtight chambers where one ventilation unit is for intake and the other is for exhaust. Air with conditioned temperature and humidity is forced to flow through each airtight chamber while the ventilation units operate. When the static pressure difference between the two chambers is at the intersection of the supply and return P-Q curves of the same ventilation unit, the rate of the supply air flow passing through one ventilation unit should be equal to the rate of the return air flow passing through the other. At the same time, the air flow rates of the inlet and outlet in one chamber are equal. The heat exchange efficiency of the ventilation units is then calculated under such conditions.
