Abstract

A study has been made on the fluid mechanics in laminar flow pipe junctions with a round upstream edge at the lateral entrance and round up- and downstream edges at the lateral entrance. The Navier-Stokes equations were solved numerically. The experiment was made on six pipe junctions having a rectangular cross section. The results obtained by computation and experimentation were compared and the flow mechanisms in the pipe junctions were investigated theoretically and experimentally.
