Abstract

This paper describes field experiments concerning development of a hybrid energy system using a micro cogeneration and renewable energy in cold regions. First, a PC energy pile system with a built-in U-tube was developed in order to reduce the cost of underground thermal system. Second, the operating results of actual measurements of the underground thermal energy system with an auxiliary boiler showed that the average fluid return temperature from the ground was 8.7℃, and that the stable performance could be obtained. In addition, the field experiment of the electric power, hot-water supply and snow melting using a micro cogeneration and underground thermal energy system was carried out. It was found that freezing of a road surface was prevented by the only underground thermal energy except severe climatic conditions. It is confirmed that the ground temperature at the depth of 8m was maintained 10℃ and over, and that the stable amount of heat was obtained. By adding the exhaust heat from the cogeneration system, the fluid supply temperature to the roadbed rose 1-2℃, and the percentage of the exhaust heat was approximately 60%.
