Abstract

Cold air distribution system is expected to reduce the energy consumption for the secondary system with ice energy storage systems. In order to estimate its effect, we established the system evaluation method. First, we evaluate the system simulation model. To fit the calculated water volume to measured one, we introduced the coefficient to heat transfer performance between inside and outside of the coil in the air-handling unit. Results of the system performance, or room air temperature, room humidity, supply air volume and supply water volume, were almost same as measured data of one year. Then, we validated the energy consumption of the variable speed fan and pump controlled by inverter motors. Secondary, we calculated several system performances in order to check the difference of the supply air temperature. Low humidity is achieved by the cold air distribution system. Supply water volume is increased as the temperature of the supply air is lowered In the calculation, supply temperature was raised at the minimum air volume if necessary. Thirdly, we calculated the whole year energy consumption for secondary system. As the temperature of supply air is lowered, total energy consumption for secondary system is reduced even though one for the pumps is increased. Range of the energy reduction is between 10 and 30%, which is depends on the minimum air volume.
