Abstract

This study proposes a new simulation model of an inverter centrifugal refrigerator. The effects of the cooling water outlet temperature, chilled water outlet temperature, cooling water flow rate, chilled water flow rate and partial load ratio are considered in the model. The model consists of two parts involving formulas based on the physical compression refrigeration cycle and formulas based on the performance curve (multiple regression model). First, the refrigerant flow rate and isentropic head are calculated by solving the refrigeration cycle model. Next, energy consumption is estimated from the isentropic head and the refrigerant flow rate using the performance curve. The accuracy of the model is validated via sensitivity analysis. The average error rate of the estimated COP (coefficient of performance) is about 5.4% for varying cooling water flow rates. The average error rate is about 9.3% for varying chilled water outlet temperatures. A method to estimate the coefficients for the performance curve of the model from the manufacturer's technical data is also proposed.
