Abstract

Food intake status was surveyed for 543 households in 13 districts of Oita Prefecture.
By using these data, the construction of food consumption was analyzed with the classified 19 food groups.
The intake distribution of each food group among households shows roughly normal distribution for rice and vegetables, Poisson's distribution for pulses, miso, fish and shellfish and eggs, and Polya-Eggenberger's distribution for potatoes, seaweeds, oil and fats and wheat and barley.
The foods which are popularized and have high intake frequency and amount show low coeficient of variance. Relationship of rice to pulses, miso, vegetables salted, seaweeds and fish and shellfish shows significantly positive correlation and that of bread to fats and oils, fruits, meat and poultry and milk shows positive correlation trend.
From factor analysis, food was classified into two groups, that is, (1) a group consisting of rice pulses, miso, vegetables salted, and seaweeds. (2) a group consisting of bread, fats and oils, meats and poultry, eggs, fruits and beverages.
The locality of food intake was studied by normalized deviation pattern similarity. Similarity of food intake between consuming district (cities) and agricultural district is negative.
Food intake of fishing district has no relation to that of other districts.
