抄録

Production of iron-deficiency anemia in rats fed on an iron-poor diet and the effect of iron supplementation on anemia were investigated.<br>Male Wister strain rats weighing about 150g were given an iron-poor diet for about 1 month and blood levels of hemoglobin, hematocrit and red blood cells were compared with those in control animals, and iron content in the liver, spleen and bone marrow in rats with iron-deficiency anemia were tested. It was observed that Hb, Ht and RBC decreased markedly compared with those of the control group, registering Hb, 8.0g/dl, Ht 29.8%, RBC 539×104/mm3 at the end of the experiment. The iron content of those tissues also decreased and the activities of δ-aminolevulinic acid synthetase in the bone marrow was observed to decrease, compared with those of control animals.<br>Iron-deficient animals were fed on two kinds of diets (diet A, 20% casein+Fe 4.10mg%; diet B, 10% casein+Fe 1.80mg%) for 10 days. In both groups the values of Hb, Ht, and RBC at the 10th day increased rapidly. But, the iron content in each organ did not show rapid increase.
