Description

In order to investigate the effects of the Ca intake of mother rats during their pregnancy on the growth of their foetus, particularly in case of high Ca intake, this experiment was performed with albino rats.
The several litters of rats were divided into 3 groups and were fed with 3 kinds of diet; namely high Ca, control and low Ca diets and their analytical values of Ca were 816, 200 and 52mg% respectively.
Average amounts of Ca taken by the mother rats from these diets during two weeks before their deliveries were as follows; 0.55, 0.16 and 0.04mg per gram of body weight respectively.
Mean values of body weight of new born rats of each group were as follows; high Ca group 4.42g, control group 4.38g and low group 4.23g and those.
Mean values of ash of foetus of each group and their Ca contents were 73.6, 70.6, 67.0 and 11.8, 11.4, 10.6mg respectively.
Not withstanding the great difference of Ca intake of mother rats, no significant difference was observed on the growth and the Ca content of the foetus of each group.
