Description

Rats feeding districted diets of 15gm per day for weeks, which were same as previously discrived one, were fasted 24 hours prior to Co-60 gamma irradiation of 600 roentgens on whole-body, and followed by 12 hours' urine collection, during the period the rats were given only tapped water.
Immediately after the collection period, the rats were killed by decapitation, and their livers were removed and weighed.
Both the amount of nitrogen in the urine samples and fresh livers were measured by semimicrokjeldahl method. Allantoin content were also measured in urine samples by the method of young et al.
The obtained results were shown in the tables, which demonstrate the following informations.
1. Gamma ray irradiation caused the enlargement of the liver. The effect was remarkable in the rats feeding on low protein diet, but the nitrogen concentrations were almost same in all cases.
2. Urinary total nitrogen and allantoin excretion incresed by the irradiation. The rate of the incresing, however, showed little difference between high and low protein diets.
