Abstract

1) p-Coumaric acid and ferulic acid inhibited the mycelial growth of R. solani at a concentration of 1000 mg L^<-1> p-Hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid did not inhibit the fungus at 1000 mg L^<-1>. 2) p-Coumaric acid exhibited fungilyric action and ferulic acid inhibited the mycelial growth of F. oxysporurn at 1000 mg L^<-1>. p-Hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid did not inhibit the mycelial growth at 1000 mg L^<-1>. 3) Antifungal activity of p-coumaric acid to R. solani and ferulic acid was less effective than to benzoic acid. The activity to F. oxysporum were more or equally effective to that of benzoic acid. 4) Re-seeding at 26 d after application of p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid and p-hydroxybenzoic acid at a concentration from 500 mg L^<-1> to 1000 mg L^<-1> was effective for decreasing the damping-off disease. However, these phenolic acids were not effective for decreasing the wilting disease.
