Abstract

The dielectric constants of tetramethyl thiuram monosulphide (TS), tetramethyl thiuram disulphide (TMT), tetraethyl thiuram disulphide (TET), mercaptobenzothiazole (M) and Zn-dibuthyl dithio carbamate (BZ) have been measured at room temperature. Their permanent dipole moments have been calculated these data. Authors have determined the each structure from the dipole moment with aid of infrared absorption spectrum.
(1) The measured permanent dipole moments of these samples are indicated below.
TS…5.36D TMT…2.58D TET…2.17D
BZ…2.20D M…3.44D
(2) In the case of TS, the structure is in cis form and three sulphur atoms in the molecule are coplanar. The angle of the central sulphide bond is about 145°.
(3) In the cases of TMT, TET and BZ, every structure is also in cis form and four sulphur atoms in the molecule are coplanar. The angles of two sulphide bonds are equal to about 110° and the influence of steric interruption in each molecule decreases in comparison with that of TS.
(4) M has tautomeric structures of thiol and thione.
