The method of colorimetric identification of amine antioxidants was studied, using 3-metyl-2-benzothiazolone hydrazone hydrochloride (MBTHH) as the coloring reagent. The absorption spectra of twenty-three kinds of antioxidants were determined, after they had been colored by adding aqueous solutions of MBTHH and ferric chloride to ethanolic solutions of them. From the shape of the spectrum and the wave length maximum, most of antioxidants could be identified. Separation and confirmation of the mixture of N, N′-diphenyl-p-phenylenediamine and phenyl-β-naphthylamine was tried in this method. Though separation was not possible, quantitative analysis could be accomplished with the mixture when the components were qualitatively known. The calibration curves of several amine antioxidants were determined. Some of them were linear, one of them had a refraction point on the straight line and another was a curve.
