Abstract

This article explains the background to the determination of so-called “correct exposure” dealt with in various International Standards (ISO standards) relating to photographic exposure, such as the concepts of the “average scene” and the “representative camera” the relationship between the exposure in the focal-plane of the camera and the characteristic curve of photographic sensitized materials. Also described are, the differences between the characteristics of the separate exposure meter and that of the camera with automatic control of exposure; the exposure level of electronic flash equipment with automatic control of exposure.
