A new made sound generator for wrist watch exhibits satis factory performance. The construction of the driving parts is shown in Fig,1. They consist of electromagnetic transducer and two vibrating plates. The use of highly efficient SmCo5 magnet has made it possible to construct the transducer parts so small that can be placed in a wrist watch. The first vibrating plate has an iron weight and vibrates by the act of electromagnetic drivirg force. Small air chamber transmits the vibrating pressure to the second plate, and thus the 2nd plate is made into vibration and transmits sound waves into the air. The 2nd plate has also a role of assuring watertightness of the watch case. Frequency characteristics of the generator are shown in Fig,3. Vibration coupling of the 1st plate, 2nd plate and also the cavity formed by the outer case-back makes three peakes of frequncy charactevistics curve and thus broad frequency range can be employed. In designing of this sound generator, the finite element method is applied to analyze the resonance frequency of the plate and magetic field. By subsituting the physical values obtained by the above analyses into the equi valent electro-acoustic circuit of the transducer, it becomes possible to estimate, the characteristics of this sound generator.
