Abstract

Ago is large in capacity but it has the drawbacks that it decomposes easily and that Variation in voltage occurs. To overcome these defects, experimental studies on the following matters were made. (1) To synthesize more stable AgO, reaction time, reaction temperature, time to add the oxidant and its quantity were properly determind and the influences of impurities in AgO were studied and controlled. (2) Proper binder and more appropriate concentration of electrolyte were selected for the cathode unit. (3) Special reducing treatment was made on the cathode surface to prevent AgO from inducing high voltage. (4) Proper choice of separator was done to lower the self-discharge rate. As the result of studies, AgO batteries of 15 to 40% larger in capacity than the customary Ag_2O ones, but equal in self-discharge rate and voltage variation could be made successfully.
