Abstract
<p>The recent developments in the improvement of spatial resolution in optical microscopy have been achieved by utilizing light-material interactions, especially fluorescence excitation and emission. In this article, I introduce the principles of several different types of super-resolution microscopes with the recent technical advancements. I also introduce perspectives on super-resolution techniques that include non-fluorescent sample observations and the contributions from the chemical and biological fields for further improvement of the resolution and the utility of the technique.</p>
