Abstract

Thermophotovoltaic (TPV) generation systems have been studied as one of the new systems for generating electricity. TPV systems have no moving parts, a high power density and can operate using a wide-range of heat sources. A specific feature of interest of rare-earth oxides, such as Er2O3 and Yb2O2 is their strong band emission, which ranges from the visible to the near-infrared region. These bands permit strong thermal excitation at high temperatures. Therefore, the Al2O3/Er3Al5O12 eutectic ceramic, which has superior high temperature characteristics, is expected to be used as a selective spectral radiation source for one of the emitter materials.
