Abstract
<p>Outer space is the ultimate field for the application of robotics technology. As outer space is a harsh environment with extreme temperature, vacuum, radiation, and gravity, and a great distance, human access is very difficult, hazardous and limited. Space robotics technology is essential for assisting human activities during on-orbit operations. Also, to expand the horizons of our knowledge on space sciences, robotics provides a key technology for the exploration of remote planets beyond the areas of human access. This article gives a concise overview on the research and development of space robots for orbital operations and exploration missions.</p>
