Description

We reviewed the frequency, detection rate, and ratio of early gastric cancer, focusing on ‘hyperplastic gastritis’ among 41,952 patients who underwent X-ray mass screening between April 2011 and March 2013. The frequency of hyperplastic gastritis was approximately 1% to 2%, regardless of age. The sex ratio slightly favored men. In the hyperplastic gastritis only group, the detection rate was 1.03%, and the rate of early cancer was 83.3%. Twenty-five of 73 gastric cancer cases were identified on the basis of histological type. Seven of nine gastric cancer cases with hyperplastic gastritis were undifferentiated carcinoma. Patients with hyperplastic gastritis, also a high-risk group of undifferentiated carcinoma, should be classified as category 3b.
