Abstract

Adding a strange quark to a nucleus, deep inside of the nucleus and the baryon force which bridges nuclear force and QCD could be studied. Spectroscopic study of Lambda hypernuclei, which have the lightest strange baryon Λ, has been extensively performed with meson beams such as K^-s and π^+s. A new experimental technique, the study of hypernuclei with electron beams, has been recognized important from the '80s, however experimental difficulties prevented the experiment until year 2000. With a decade of efforts at JLab, Λ hypernuclear spectroscopy with electron beams has been established and further progresses are expected at JLab and Mainz. This article reviews spectroscopic study of Λ hypernuclei with electron beams and future prospects.
